The aim of the part I of the paper is to provide the professionals with the information on development of the oldest methadone maintenance treatment program (MMTP) in the Slovak Republic, and about its modifications. The second part of the paper provides an overview of the selected, statistically processed outcomes with the emphasis on the latest trends and changes during the last five years, since the last summarizing paper. Methodologically, and in accordance with its aim, the study is a retrospective, descriptive, partially comparative study derived from the continually collected qualitative and quantitative data from the Institute of Drug Dependency databases in the Centre for Treatment of Drug Dependencies (CTDD) in Bratislava. The outcomes: Remarkable increase in the use of methamphetamines since the year 2004 led us to creation of two MMTP modalities: (A) besides already existing therapeutic modality, with individualized dosages, without upper dose limit, and with conducting of the toxicological analysis; (B) the new modality was designed with the main goal of harm reduction, where daily methadone do se was up to maximum of 40 mg, without any toxicological examinations and with no take-home medications, only for the weekends. The pilot project period ended with the issuing of the methodological guidelines for methadone treatment by the Ministry of Health in the year 2004, and methadone dispense started at CTDD Banská Bystrica in the year 2006.
