Synthetic drugs as methamphetamine or MDMA can be considered as an integrated part of electronic music and dance culture. House and techno parties gained high popularity among youth and became a mass phenomenon. According to this fact we decided to explore the spectrum of psychoactive substances use on the dance scene and to compare our findings from 2002 with results of our pilot study from 1999. By comparing samples from 1999 (n = 60) and 2002 (n = 250) we found out that amphetamine derivates (methamphetamine, MDMA) still belong to the most frequently used substances in this community. As a result of this comparison only slight changes of the spectrum of misused substances was observed but we consider a shift towards regular use as alarming. Results are discussed in details in conclusions of the presented work.

Key words: amphetamines – ecstasy – techno scene – neurotoxicity
