Regional differences in the incidence of delirium tremens in the Czech Republic and its treatment

Nešpor, K. – Csémy, L. – Nechanská, B.

357 cases of delirium tremens were recorded in the Czech Republic in the year 2013. There were large regional differences in incidence of delirium tremens and alcohol consumption in the Czech Republic. The number of cases of delirium tremens per 100,000 in 2013 was found the highest in these regions: 1. Moravian-Silesian Region, 2. Vysocina Region, 3. South Moravian Region 4. Olomouc Region. Restrictions on the sale of spirits because of the great number of methanol intoxications in 2012 did not lead to a higher incidence of delirium tremens. Decreased incidence of delirium tremens since 20005 may be associated with lower alcohol consumption and the earlier treatment of alcohol dependence by professionals and Alcoholics Anonymous.
