Indication of antidepressants in addiction

The goal of this study is an epidemiological analysis of dependent patients from Psychiatric Clinic of Addicts, Predná Hora, Slovak Republic. Report presents sample of 453 dependent hospitalised patients during the first six months of the year 2000. In 13.7 % of them there was found taking of antidepressants. In 71 % those are prescribed to the depended on alcohol. In 92 % of them it was found out, that they were more than once hospitalised on the psychiatric department. The antidepressants therapy is indiciated by the clinical psychiatrist in the 50 % of patients before theirs hospitalisation in the institute. Favourable is the finding of abstinence and stabilisation of mood in the group of depressive alcoholics with recommended outpatient antidepressive therapy for more than six months.
