The study is an epidemiological analysis of a group of 891 inpatients suffering from substance- related disorder, treated in OLÚP Predná Hora in 1999. The authors investigated the occurrence of chronic organic psychosyndrome among the patients. From the sample of 891 patients in 5 (of 44 patients), exclusively alcoholics, mostly men, in average 56 years old, in 90.9 % chronic organic psychosyndrome was found. 27 % of them were treated with nootropic agents. One third of the patients were non-smokers and one third of them had previously suffered injury to their head. In 95 % apart from substance-related disorder and chronic organic psychosyndrome concomitant serious somatic diseases were found (mostly cardiovascular diseases and brain dysfunction).
