Introduction: The notion of internet addiction often appears in the literature, but it is rather vague. Attention should be drawn to specific applications that the Internet allows to use. Aims: The aim of the work was to find out the occurrence of pathological and problematic use of the Internet in the investigated group of adolescents. We focused on whether the time spent on the computer and the Internet in the selected specific activities differs among the probands who use the Internet nonproblematically, problematically and pathologically. Research sample and methods: 1473 probands (50 % of men) participated in the study. The average age was 15.1 years. We used a three-question questionnaire and an Internet Dependency Scale. Results: The Internet used pathologically 0.5 % (N = 7) of probands. 5 % (N = 74) probands used Internet problematically. Compared to pathological and nonproblematic users, a group of problematic Internet users spent on average significantly more free time on their computers and the Internet (p <0.001). Problematic users spent significantly more time on social networks compared to pathological and non-problematic users (p <0.001) and watching serials and movies (p <0.05). Conclusion: A relatively small proportion of adolescents use the Internet pathologically or problematically. Problematic users spend more time using social networks and watching movies and serials compared to non-problematic users. Explaining these differences requires further investigation.
