Cannabidiol for alternative treatment of addictions

Šulcová, A.

Addiction is a behavioral disorder of the pathological searching for a certain activity, most commonly drug use or also overeating or certain other (eg work) activity, which is associated with proven deregulation of neurobiological CNS systems (in dorsal striatum, globus pallidus, nucleus accumbens, hippocampus, thalamus, amygdala, orbitofrontal and prefrontal cortex). Functional changes also occur in the internal vital organs. In recent years, one of the investigated options for treatment of addiction has become the application of psychotropically inactive cannabinoid cannabidiol. Proven cannabidiol effects suppressing both neurotoxic and behavioral changes in both preclinical and clinical studies of addiction are a valid reason for unambiguous expert recommendations to continue in studies verifying the accuracy of this indication choice.
