Background: the establishment and development of specialized institutional facilities for the treatment of alcohol dependence has a tradition in our historical territory since 1911. In September 1948, a separate anti-alcoholic ward at Apolinár, which was part of the psychiatrie clinic, started its activity. From the point of view of keeping medical records, this meant a completely new innovative approach and scope, which had to reflect everything that could affect the therapeutic interventions and the success of treatment. Aims: The aim of this research was to analyse and describe the structure of medical documentation used in 1948 in the anti-alcohol ward at Apolinár. Methods: The collected data were then coded, grouped into clusters and then a simple enumeration method was applied. Results and conclusion: The analysed data from the medical records of the first patients of Apolinár provided insights into the process of recording and recording the medical stay in 1948. From the mapped structure of the medical records, not only can the applied medication, therapeutic treatments, somatic examinations, and the patients' experiences during treatment in the anti-alcohol ward at Apolinár in 1948 be read, but they are evidence of a careful and detailed approach to the treatment of alcohol dependence, with an emphasis on the most comprehensive knowledge of the patient and an individual approach to the patient within the entire therapeutic team.
