The article characterizes basic health and social problems of seniors which originate from tobacco use and alcoholic beverages consumption. An article is focused on reasons and consequences evaluation of tobacco and alcohol consumption in seniors, on estimates related with trouble drinking in adult population. An article determines the risk of beginning of addiction on alcohol and possible health consequences which are connected to alcohol addiction. In conclusion it presents interventions with the aim to lower the incidence of tobacco and alcohol usage from the perspective of activities performed by general practitioner. Intervention options of public health are stated at the end.
