This review article reviews contemporary information about genetics of nicotine dependency. This review summarize twin and adoption studies, also linkage and association studies. There exists genetic variability in the nicotine metabolism, in mediation of reward systems. Also is genetic determination in smoking initiation, persistence and formation of nicotine dependence. Studies about genetic determination of the treatment possibility and effectivity are very hopeful. But there are many inconsistencies in this field, future research is needed.
