Personality disorders (PDs) as a risk factor for alcohol dependence have been the focus of interest in addictology since the introduction of diagnostic criteria for PDs. Their prevalence in individuals with alcohol dependence is substantially higher than in general population. In this paper we present results from our survey on prevalence of personality disorders in patients with alcohol dependence hospitalized at the 1st Department of Psychiatry in Košice. 57.4 % male and 51.8 % female patients fulfilled diagnostic criteria for personality disorders. The most frequent ones diagnosed in men were borderline (22.2 %), antisocial (20.4 %) and narcistic (20.4 %) personality disorders. Histrionic (42.9 %) and dependent (35.7 %) personality disorders were the most frequent in women.
