Qualitative analysis of specific needs in children under 15 years who are at risk due to addictive substance use in Prague

The study realized with the sample of Prague s drug policy coordinators and pediatrists has been the part of the project of The Needs Assessment and The Current Situation in The Field of Special Facilities for Children with Addiction Disorders. The aim of this substudy was to describe and to analyze the situation in the area of provided addictology services to children aged up to 15 years from the perspective of both professional groups. Furthermore, we were focused on a description of the target group from the perspective of their specific needs and sources of information about them. At the same time, the purpose of the study was to evaluate the availability of key sources for both professional groups. Second, to describe subjectively perceived problems linked with a realization and a development of the care treatment s system for children aged up to 15 years. Finally, to specify of abilities and weakness of a system’s functionality. The simple random sample was constituted a group of 14 drug policy coordinators (total number from 22) and 4 pediatrists. There has been used the method of semistructured interviews for collecting of qualitative data. Addressed participants considered children older 13 years to be most numerous risk group which using alcohol, tobacco and marijuana. However, they supposed in most cases it were been more likely experiments than regularly using drugs. They identified the main systemic commitment: necessity to complete a system of provided services and other ambulant counseling centre s better distributed (in term of aavailability) in Prague, resident program s with education and increased services of drop in clubs. There has been founded no adequate support of need s increased bed capacity.
